Wallace R. Deitchman

b. 3 Oct 1896; d. 9 Jan 1958. Wallace R. Deitchman was born  in Rosehill Twp., Cottonwood Co., MN to Erdman and Emma Trautfether (Wahl) Deitschman.  He was raised by his step father, Fred Wann. At the age of 14, Wallace was living  in Greeley,  CO. By 1916, his family returned to Windom.  Wallace attended Windom High School in 1916-1917, and then was a student at the University of MN.

On 11 Jul 1918, Wallace enlisted during WWI in Hennepin County, and was assigned to Company G, 5th Regiment, 1st Division at the Great Lakes Navel Station, IL.  On 7 Aug 1918, he transferred to Company Headquarters and on 11 Aug 1918 was sent to Philadelphia  and on 17 Aug 1918 to New York where he left for France.  1st Class Petty Officer Deitchman was involved in running supplies to the 91st Division between Wales, Scotland, and St. Nazaire, France in the North Atlantic. On 17 Mar 1919, he returned to the U.S. and was honorably discharged on 4 Apr 1919 at Norfolk, VA.

There is little known about his life once he left the service other than he was living in Hennepin Co. at the time of his death.  He is buried next to his brother Henry at the Lakewood Cemetery, Hennepin Co., MN.
