b. 31 Jul 1896; d. 4 Dec 1972.  Thomas Carter was born in Benton, IA  to Silas Lincoln and Louis Ellen (Schuhart) Carter. His family lived in the Crookston, MN area until about 1905 when they moved Dale Twp., Cottonwood Co., MN. Before he enlisted in WWI, he farmed on his own in Amboy Twp., Cottonwood Co.

On 28 Aug 1918,  Thomas enlisted in the U.S. Army in the 1st Infantry, 86th Division (Black Hawk), at Camp Grant, IL. His unit was sent to France in Sep 1918 as a replacement troop. The 86th division was never placed in the front lines. On 30 Jan 1919, Thomas was discharged at Camp Grant.

On 5 Apr 1923, he married Thelma Regina Olson; they had three sons.  Thomas was a member of the Odergaard-Quade American Legion Post #401 and the Baptist Church in Jeffers, MN. On 4 Dec 1972,  Thomas died at the Windom Hospital of a heart attack.  He is buried at the Jeffers Cemetery.
