Terry Leo Makovsky was born  in Tracy, MN to Leo and Lucille (Shaw) Makovsky. Terry was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Tracy, MN. He received his formal education in the Tracy Public school system, where he graduated in May, 1969. Terry’s post-secondary education was completed at Jackson Vocational School and Heavy Equipment School in Staples, MN.

In Jan 1971, Terry was drafted into the United States Army and completed Basic Training at Fort Campbell, KY. Shortly thereafter, Terry volunteered for Special Forces Airborne School at Fort Benning, GA, where he earned his wings on 4 Jun 1971. From there he changed stations to Fort Bragg, NC where he served with the 618th Engineering Battalion with the 82nd Airborne Division until he was Honorably Discharged in Dec 1973. In 1985, Terry joined the Minnesota National Guard where he was stationed at Litchfield, MN, and served with the 682nd Engineering Battalion. He served 17 years there until his retirement in 2001.

On 29 Apr 1978 Terry was united in marriage to Leslie Sandy. From this union two sons were born, Ryan and Kyle. In 1984, Terry started what led to a 27 year career with MNDOT with the highway maintenance crew. Simultaneous to his MNDOT career, Terry farmed in the Windom, MN area for 32 years.

Terry was diagnosed with cancer in November, 2007. After a courageous 12-year battle he passed away at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN. Terry was comforted by the presence of his immediate family.
