b. 29 Aug 1926;  d. 19 Aug 2007. Edwin Theodore “Ed” Menken was born to Tebbo H. and Etta (Eucken) Menken in Amboy Twp., Cottonwood Co., MN.  He attended Jeffers public schools until his junior year when he entered college at Ames, IA, in 1943.  He returned home a year later to help work on the family farm.

In 1945, Ed enlisted in the Marine Corps and received training at Parris Island, SC; Camp Lejuene, NC; and Camp Pendleton, CA before being sent to Guam for 1 and 1/2 years. He was discharged and returned home to farm.

In 1948 he enrolled at Arizona State College, then transferred to the University of Wyoming where he received a B.A. degree in business administration.

In 1951 when he graduated, he got a job in the Albuquerque National Park until 1956 when he went to work in oil exploration in the “4 corners area”.

In 1959, Ed was approved as a diplomatic courier by the U.S. State Department. He was stationed in Germany, Panama, Philippine Islands, and Thailand, serving for 32 years before retiring and moving to Windom, MN in 1991. As a Courier, Ed visited every capital in the world except 6 which were in communist countries.

While in Germany, Ed married Renate Langer; they had 1 daughter.  In 1982, he married Boonying Chaiyapung in Windom.

Buried at the Jeffers Cemetery, Jeffers, MN.
