b. 28 Apr 1896; 31 Aug 1976.  Norman Alfred Foss was born in Highwater Twp., Cottonwood Co., MN to Martin T. and Gunhild Oktedalen (Nielsen) Foss.  He grew up in Highwater Twp. and completed the 8th grade in a rural school there.  He also worked on the family farm with his father until enlisting in the U.S. Army during WWI.

On 21 Sep 1917, Norman enlisted and was assigned to Co. D, 351st Infantry, 88th Division at Camp Dodge, IA.  He later transferred to Co. B, 346th Infantry, 87th Division at Camp Pike, AR and again to Co. M, 58th Infantry, 4th Division.  His unit was sent to France in May 1918, where he was involved in active sectors at Vesle, Toul and Coblenz, St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne.  His unit also fought for a brief time with the 6th French Army near Norroy and Hautevesnes.  On 15 Aug 1919, Pvt. Foss was discharged at Camp Dodge, IA.

After his discharge, he continued to farm near Lamberton, MN until his retirement in 1952. After his retirement, Norman moved to Lamberton and lived there the rest of his life. He never married.  Norman was a life time member of the American Legion #41 in Lamberton.

Buried in the Old Westbrook Lutheran Church Cemetery, Westbrook, MN.
