b. 7 May 1935; d. 1 Jan 2018.  Merlin “Johnny” Flatgard was born in Lakefield, MN to Alfred and Leona (Swanson) Flatgard. Johnny received his education in Lakefield and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in the early 1950’s until being honorably discharged.

Johnny was united in marriage to Marilyn French on 26 Jun 1957 at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. After marriage, they made their home in Windom and Johnny worked for Lefty Arnold as an electrician. He then became the Building Maintenance Supervisor for MNDOT in the SW District until retiring abt. 1998. After retiring, Johnny and Marilyn enjoyed wintering in Texas for many years. In 2017, Johnny became suddenly sick and was taken to the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he passed away. Buried at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.

Johnny was a longtime member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom and a member of American Legion Post #206 in Windom. He had many enjoyments in life which included golfing, watching sports, tinkering, traveling, going to the casinos, bowling, playing cards, having coffee around town and spending time with his family.
