b. 11 Feb 1923; d. 2 Feb 1974.  Lyal Fred Langland was born to Fred and Daisy (Jensen) Langland at Wilder, MN. He attended Wilder public schools.

On 12 Jun 1944, Lyal entered the U.S. Army at Fort Snelling.  He served overseas with Company “A,” 310th Regiment of the 78th Infantry Division. On 9 Feb 1945, he was wounded in action in Germany for which he received the Purple Heart. In addition, he received the American Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and the European-African-and Middle East Service Ribbon with 2 battle stars. On 12 Aug 1947, he was honorably discharged with a certificate of disability.

Lyal married Ardith M. Norland on 4 Nov 1945; they had 3 daughters. After his service, Lyal worked on various farms in the Windom/Wilder area and also farmed for himself. For 6 years, he was employed in road construction.

Buried at Lakeview Cemetery, Windom, MN.
