Leonard L. Lund, Sr.

b. 3 Nov 1898; d.  19 Aug 1977. Leonard Leroy “Leo” Lund was born in Holstein, IA to Olaf Tobias and Marie (Lange) Lund.  In 1902, Leonard moved with his family to Amo Twp., Cottonwood Co., MN; around 1910 the family relocated nearby to Springfield Twp., where Leonard grew up and attended public school through the eighth grade.

He entered the U.S. Army on 29 Apr 1918, and later was sent to France. After his discharge on 24 Jul 1919, Leonard moved to Sioux Falls, SD where he lived until 1927.  No additional information regarding his service record has been found.

While living in Sioux Falls, Leo met and married Lillian G. Behrens on 11 Feb 1920.; they had one son.

By 1928, the family had moved to St. Paul, MN, and lived there until the late 1940s.  During those years, Leonard was employed as a checker, caretaker and gas station attendant.  By 1947, the family had returned to Windom, MN, and owned and operated the Highway Cafe until his retirement.  After retirement, the family moved to the Brainerd, MN area.  Towards the later part of his life, Leo moved to the Deer River Nursing Home in Crow Wing Co., MN, and  lived there until his passing.   He was buried in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Hennepin Co., MN.
