b. 02 Jun 1931; d. 30 Nov 2017.  LaMoyne Franklin “Sam” Polzin, son of Frank and Maybelle (Kaushagen) Polzin, was born and raised in Jeffers, MN.  He graduated from Jeffers High School in 1949.  After high school, he attended Waldorf Junior College.

Sam was inducted into the U.S. Army in Sep 1952, during the Korean War.  He completed basic training at Fort Sill, OK, graduated from ‘Artillery School’ at Fort Sill in Feb 1953, and went on to spend several years at Fort Sill.

On 12 Feb 1953, LaMoyne married June Irene Buckley.  After his discharge, the couple relocated to Mankato, MN, where Sam continued his college education, graduating in 1957.  That same year, the couple moved to Luverne, MN, where Sam took a teaching position at Luverne High School.  Sam continued to teach until his retirement in 1987. Sam enjoyed music and sang in the Grace Lutheran Church choir where he was a long-time member.  He was a member of Modern Woodmen of America and the National Education Association and was inducted into the Waldorf College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002.  Sam also had a passion for woodworking and photography.

Sam Polzin died in Luverne in 2017 and is buried at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
