Jacob F. Force

b. 2 Mar 1843; d. Dec 1924.  Jacob F. Force was born at Stillwater, NY.

In 1862, he enlisted in the 125th Regiment, NY Volunteers.  He was later commissioned as a lieutenant in Co H 22 Reg U.S. Colored Infantry and promoted to captain in the 125th Regiment. He led his troops into battle and was severely wounded in 1864 before Fort Harrison, Virginia, necessitating the removal of several inches of bone from his left shoulder.  Because of this wound, he was honorably discharged in Apr 1865.

In 1867, he married Sarah F. Mesick; they had 3 children.  Sarah died in 1919.

After the war, he attended the Albany Medical College in NY. He moved to Minnesota to practice medicine after his graduation in 1872. He homesteaded in Jackson Co. near Heron Lake and is mentioned as one of Heron Lake’s first doctors. He later moved to Windom, MN in the 1890s where his son was a dentist. Dr. Force, at this time, was in the insurance business.

In 1905, he moved to Pasadena, CA.
