b.  18 Sep 1919, d. 25 Mar 1996.  Gordon Douglas “Gordy” Hanefeld was born to Oscar Gustav and Lillian (Smith) Hanefeld was born in Windom, MN. He graduated from Windom High School in 1937.  He cooked for Ray’s Café in Windom for many years. On 4 Aug 1940, Gordy married Helen Halverson;  they had 2 children and made their home in Windom. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a cook. After his honorable discharge, he returned to his family and home and continued to cook at Ray’s Café. In 1948, Gordy purchased the Silver Dime Café in partnership with Lila Halverson which they operated until 1960.  In later years, Gordy was the chef at the Driftwood Supper Club. From 1960 – 1995, Gordy was a school bus driver for the Windom School District. He also was a custodian at the National Guard Armory from 1961 – 1986. In addition, he was very actively involved in his church and community;  he served on several boards, was in the American Legion, and received a Mayor’s Award for community-wide service. Buried at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom, MN.
