b. 9 Dec 1887; d. 1 Mar 1964.  Fred William Determan was born in Wheatland Twp., Carroll Co., IA to Bernard W. and Mary (Stangl) Determan. He attended schools in Breda, IA including two years of high school, and became a self-employed painter before WWI.

During WWI, he registered for the draft on 5 Jun 1917 in Wheatland Twp., Carroll Co., IA.  His obituary states that he served in the armed forces during WWI, but no specific information about his service was found.

After his military service, Fred returned to Breda and continued his occupation as painter and paper hanger until 1950.  On 6 Nov 1923, he married Bernadine Sanders; they had 3 children. The family moved to Jeffers, MN in 1950.  They attended the St. Augestine Catholic Church in Jeffers.

Buried at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Windom, MN.
