b. 29 Dec 1896; 8 Jun 1977. Esten Moen was born in Christiania, Kobenhaven, Norway, to Esten  and Anna  Moen.  Esten immigrated to Jackson Co., MN in 1903 and was raised by his uncle and aunt, Ole and Johannah Flatgard, in Christiana Twp., Jackson Co., MN. Esten completed the eighth grade in Jackson Co. At the time of his enlistment in WWI, Esten lived with his mother, Anna, in Windom, MN and was employed by the C. St. P. M. & O. R. R Co. in Windom.

On 15 Aug 1918, Esten enlisted in the U.S. Army; he  discharged on 29 Jul 1919.

After his discharge, Esten returned to Windom and lived with his brother-in-law, Samuel H. Solien and sister, Kirsti, into the 1920s. By this time, Esten was a naturalized citizen and worked as a laborer. By the 1930 Federal Census, Esten was a lodger living in Jackson, MN with the Olena Eide family. On 12 Jun 1930, Esten married Irena Clara Eide; they had two daughters. He lived with his family in the Jackson area until the mid 1950s  His wife, Irena, passed away in 1952. On 8 Jun 1977, Esten passed away while living in Plainview, MN.
