Erick was born on 10 Dec 1876 in Jemtland, Sweden. He immigrated to the U.S. on 24 Apr 1901, departing  from Southampton on the ship SS St. Louis and arriving in New York City on 12 May, 1901.  Erick become a naturalized citizen on 8 Jun 1906 in Cottonwood Co., MN. While living in the Lakeside Twp. and Bingham Lake area during the 1910s, he worked as a farm hand for William Ewert and Gustavas Koenigeser.  At the time of his enlistment in WWI, Erick worked as a harness maker in Windom.

Erick registered for the draft in Cottonwood Co. on 12 Sep 1918. According to the Cottonwood County Citizen 0f 11 Dec 1918, he was severely wounded in action. No other information on his military service was found.

In Feb 1920, he left Bingham Lake to return to Sweden to settle the estate of his father, who had died in 1913.  After returning to the U.S., he married Anna (last name unknown) and adopted a son, Fernando Salas. The family lived in the  Los Angeles, California, area where Erick worked as a cement maker.
