b. 9 Jul 1915; d. 7 Jan 1992.  Bernard John  Kirchmeier was born to Baltasar Henry and Theresa (Thuringer) Kirchmeier near Hartington, NE.  He attended a District 14 School in Cedar County, NE.  As a young man, he came to the Heron Lake, MN area to work in 1938.

During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy with duty in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Indiana.

On 12 Dec 1942, he married Mary Eleanor Miller; they had 5 children.  The family lived in Amo Twp., Cottonwood Co., MN where Bernard farmed for many years.  Mary died in 1959.

In 1972, Bernard married Irene (Surls) Miller and added 3 step-children to his family. Irene died in 1975. Bernard lived in Jeffers, MN, after his retirement from farming.

Member of the American Legion Post in Jeffers and was a commander of that post. He also served on the Board of the Windom Coop Oil for sixteen years.

Buried at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Cemetery, Windom, MN.
