b. 9 Nov 1892; d. 8 Oct 1952. Arch Leonard Bolles was born in Lebanon, MO to John William and Rebecca Jane (Mullicane) Bolles.  He attended school in Iowa and completed the 4th grade.  By 1917, Arch was working as a farm hand in Rose Hill Twp., Cottonwood County, MN.

Bolles enlisted in the U.S. Navy on 13 Aug 1917 and was sent to the Norfolk, VA training facility.  On 5 Oct 1917, he was promoted to Seaman 2nd Class. On 1 Jan 1918, he was transferred to the USS  Cyclops.  Later, he served on the USSN Pittsburgh and the Vauban.  Seaman Bolles was transferred to Brooklyn, NY, and assigned to the Armed Draft Detail on 21 Oct 1918.  He was promoted to the rank of 2nd Class Seaman on 5 Oct 1917, and to the rank of Seaman on 20 Sep 1918. On 13 Nov 1918, Seaman Bolles arrived in NY aboard the Vauban which had departed from Buenos Aires.  He was honorably discharged on 28 Jun 1919 in NY.  It is unknown if Seaman Bolles served in any areas of hostilities.

Abt. 1922, Arch married  Helen Ione Livermoore; they had 4 children. By the time of the 1925 census, the family was living in Oto, IA. By 1930, they were living in Grange, IA.  By the time of the 1940 census, Bolles had divorced and was living in Oto, IA again and working as a farm laborer.

Bolles is  buried at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Anton, IA.
